Untitled Charcoal Work

I was scheduled to see Ethel Cain in concert the weekend before my birthday, but due to an incoming storm, the festival was cancelled. I’ve, admittedly, been obsessing over her music and aesthetic for the past couple of months, and I decided to use the allotted time for the concert to create a new charcoal piece.

I have found the Southern Gothic art style to be really intriguing, and I decided to take a swing at my own version. I was inspired by Andrew Wyeth’s Christina’s World in the way he slanted the perspective. I wanted to play with fire and the smoke texture it creates, as well as attempt to add dust flowing behind the escaping horse.

I appreciate the composition of the piece and the leading lines that the power lines create.
