Self Portrait in Mallorca

In a spur of creative adrenaline, I decided to purchase a new 18”x24” Bristol pad from the local Blick store. I had been feeling a sense of overwhelming stress about my future and what my second year in New York City would bring me. I wanted to document a time when I felt stress-free, which, to no one’s surprise, was a day I spent overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

I wanted to work with graphite, and especially charcoal again, since I find it therapeutic and connecting to work with my hands on a piece focused around memory, which is non-tangible, and bring it into the physical world with its residue left over on my hands.

This was a quick two-day project that got me out of a chaotic headspace and engaged my mind and body in a creative way.
